What Size Poster Do You Need? 45×60 cm vs 75×100 cm

Short answer: choose 75×100 cm (30×40") for a single poster above a sofa, bed or sideboard, and 45×60 cm (18×24") for hallways, small rooms, desks and gallery walls. All our posters come in these two sizes.

The two-thirds rule

A picture above furniture looks right when it is about two-thirds as wide as the furniture below it. Measure the furniture, multiply by 0.66, and pick the size closest to that number.

  • Sofa 200 cm wide → about 130 cm of art → one 75×100 cm poster, or two 45×60 cm posters side by side with a 5–8 cm gap.
  • Double bed 140–160 cm wide → about 95–105 cm → one 75×100 cm poster, hung landscape if the image is wide.
  • Sideboard or desk 100–120 cm wide → about 70–80 cm → one 75×100 cm poster, or a single 45×60 cm poster for a lighter look.

Where 45×60 cm works best

The smaller size fits narrow walls, hallways, bathrooms, kitchens, home offices and children's rooms. It is also the easiest size for a gallery wall: three or four 45×60 cm posters hung as a grid fill a wall without overpowering it.

Where 75×100 cm works best

The large size is a statement piece. Use it as the one main artwork in a living room, above a bed or at the end of a corridor where people see it from a distance. Bold, simple images such as Mondrian grids, Lichtenstein pop art or Klimt landscapes hold up especially well at this size.

How high to hang it

Hang the centre of the poster at eye level, about 145–152 cm (57–60") from the floor. Above a sofa or bed, leave 15–25 cm between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the frame.

Framing

Our posters are sold unframed and ship rolled in a protective tube, so you can choose any standard frame in 45×60 cm or 75×100 cm (or 18×24" and 30×40"). Flatten the poster under a few books for a day before framing.
