Bicycloid Ix by Robert Rauschenberg (1994) – Poster

A bicycle wheel and tire dominate the composition of Bicycloid Ix, its rubber and metal framed against a stark background. The print captures the raw, industrial poetry of the object, isolated and elevated to art. Cobalt blue, deep black, and polished silver clash and harmonize across the image. The tire’s tread shows fine crosshatching, the wheel’s spokes cast subtle shadows, and the hub gleams with metallic precision. The negative space amplifies the object’s form, letting its curves and edges speak. Robert Rauschenberg spent his career erasing the line between high art and the everyday, and Bicycloid Ix is no exception. The bicycle wheel, a symbol of motion and industry, is stripped of function and given a new life as pure shape and texture. It’s a nod to his combines and a reminder that beauty can be found in the most utilitarian things. Hang this Robert Rauschenberg art print in a modern loft or studio, where the poster lets the bold form and sharp contrasts command attention. It’s a piece for those who see art in the ordinary.
