Candles light the scene in Gerhard Richter’s layered painting. Soft yellows and warm oranges glow against a smoky gray backdrop, the flames blurred by quick, fluid strokes. The wax pools in thick impasto, catching the light like molten gold. A quiet intimacy fills the work, the candles burning low in a dim interior. Richter, long fascinated by the tension between realism and abstraction, here lets the physical act of painting dissolve the subject into pure sensation. The flicker of the flames feels fleeting, as if the scene might vanish if you blink. It is a moment of stillness before the dark, a private reverie captured on canvas. The work belongs to his later explorations of memory and perception, where the photograph meets the brush. Candles by Gerhard Richter brings a contemplative glow to any wall. This fine art print lets the warmth of the original shine through in your home, a poster that feels both intimate and expansive.
