Dat Rosa Miel Apibus by Anselm Kiefer (2009) – Poster

A dense field of impasto strokes crowds the surface in Dat Rosa Miel Apibus. The composition presses forward, its textures thick and deliberate, leaving little empty space for the eye to rest. Ochre, umber, and muted whites rise from the canvas in heavy layers, the paint scraped and scarred as if bearing the weight of time. A single Latin phrase emerges, half-buried in the material, its letters etched like ancient carvings against the raw ground. Anselm Kiefer’s work often grapples with history, memory, and the fragility of human mark-making. Here, the title—translated as 'The Rose Gives Honey to the Bees'—hints at alchemy and renewal, yet the image feels more like a relic unearthed from a forgotten era. The artist’s hands seem to have worked the surface as much as painted it, the poster capturing that tactile struggle between creation and decay. An art print for those who prize depth over decoration, Dat Rosa Miel Apibus by Anselm Kiefer rewards the viewer willing to lean in, to trace the ridges and valleys of each brushstroke with their gaze.
