Layers of sediment unfold in Strata, a meticulous study by Vija Celmins. The artwork reveals itself slowly, like pages of an ancient text waiting to be deciphered. Each line is a record, a whisper of time captured in graphite and ink. The precision is almost geological, as if the artist herself were a force of nature, carving history onto the page. There is no color to distract, only the stark contrast of black and white, a visual language as old as printmaking itself. This is an artwork that demands patience, rewarding those who take the time to explore its depths. It belongs in a space where quiet contemplation is possible, where the mind can wander through the strata of thought, just as the eyes wander through the layers of the print.
