A wooden slat chair floats in negative space, suspended in Jasper Johns' Untitled Ulae S13. The familiar object becomes something else entirely here, divorced from its context and function, inviting quiet reflection. The chair is rendered in a loose, almost sketch-like manner, with visible brushstrokes and a limited palette of blacks, whites, and grays. The background is a field of unmodulated white, providing a stark contrast to the chair's dark lines. The composition is off-center, adding a sense of unease and tension to the scene. This print finds its place in a study or library, where the interplay of line and space can be contemplated.
